The problem: Duopoly of Democrats and Republicans

To The Editor,
Vermonter’s are pretty good at reading between the lines. We hear how one party has brought about quagmire so it is imperative to vote for the other party.
Joe Lieberman’s flip flopping in the partisan world of politics should be enough for anyone to see there is little difference, if any, between Republicans and Democrats (this includes partisan candidates who awaken, independent, after primary failure).
Both parties together, through incumbency, have given us a corrosion of basic civil rights, pre-emptive war, and catastrophic deficits, all for war.
Democrats and Republicans are the problem, together. This election year, Think independently. Vote against the incumbent party.
Failure to do so will ensure continued loss of liberty. It is not just someone else’s representative or senator who is taking us down the road to imperialism. It is yours as well.

The Vermont Libertarian Party held their biannual reorganization meeting on Saturday, November 19 in Randolph.
Delegates at the meeting elected Hardy Machia of Grand Isle as Vermont Party Chair, Heavenly Ryan of Burlington as Vice-Chair, Brendan Kinney of Essex as Secretary, Michael Bandler of Mendon as Treasurer, and Stephen Farrington of Stockbridge as Assistant Treasurer.
“The Libertarian Party proudly champions the cause of liberty and freedom in Vermont,” Machia said. “Our party is known as a haven for independents and people who are disillusioned with the major parties,” Machia said.
A year in advance of the 2006 election, Machia notes a new level of interest and indicates that there will be a significant focus on running active and aggressive campaigns in the coming year. “Recent polls show that Americans are continuing to turn away from the Democrats and Republicans, and we have been approached by an unprecedented number of individuals considering a run in 2006,” Machia said.
Machia as the new chair of the Vermont Libertarian Party seeks to promote the Libertarian Party as the centrist party in Vermont. “Vermont is polarized between the socialist democrats and social conservatives. Now is the time for a center-of-center party that represents fiscally responsible and socially tolerant Vermonters. Our appeal is to the middle class, the small business owners, and the highly taxed soccer moms and dads.”
Hardy Machia, 36, operates his computer software business Catamount Software out of his home in Grand Isle. He is president and co-founder of Vermont NORML. He also co-founded and serves on the executive board of the Vermont Chapter of the National Youth Rights Association. Machia served as Chair of the Grand Isle Selectboard in 2000, was elected as a Justice of the Peace as a Libertarian in 2002, and ran a full-time campaign as the Libertarian Party candidate for Governor in 2004.
