Dear Vermonter,

It’s time for all parties in Vermont to reform their town committees. The Vermont Libertarian Party will hold its town caucuses on September 14. If you are interested forming a town committee in your town, then contact me asap so I can send you the forms you need and the directions.

We hope to be adding some new towns, but we also will be losing some town committees as people move so you help is vital in making sure we can easily put presidential, statewide, and local candidates on the ballot to give Vermonters a choice of lower taxes, less government, and more freedom.

Caucusing is simple to do, but there are some laws that must be followed. For example, you need to post a notice in two places in your town at least 5 days in advance of your caucus, and if you have more than 1000 people in your town, then the notice must also appear in your local paper.

“Freedom and Choice” is the theme of the fourth annual Milton Friedman Day observance to be held Friday, July 30, from 5-7pm at the Sheraton Burlington Conference Center.

The speaker is Bill Sayre of Bristol, a former student of Nobel Prize winning economist Milton Friedman at the University of Chicago. Sayre, an economist and businessman, is the former chair of Associated Industries of Vermont and a regular commentator on True North Radio.

The event, part of the Sheraton Economic Series, honors what would be the 98th birthday of Prof. Friedman, a one time resident of Ely, Vermont. It is hosted by the Sheraton Burlington, sponsored by the Ethan Allen Institute, and cosponsored by the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce, Vermont Economy Newsletter, Vermont Business Magazine, and Vermont Tiger.

“In an era when we seem to be afflicted with ever more government mandating ever more choices for citizens, it’s useful – and indeed inspirational – to review the life and thought of Milton Friedman, a true apostle of liberty”, said EAI vice president John McClaughry.

The Sheraton Economic Series is open to the public and no admission charge or reservation is required,

Featuring: BRUCE LISMAN

Thursday, May 13, 2010
Program from 5-6:30 p.m.
Sheraton Burlington Conference Center – Diamond Ballroom

In the world of finance, “having skin in the game” means that a player has put his own assets at risk to make a deal produce a profit. What assets does Vermont bring to the economic table? Bruce Lisman has some powerful ideas to share about how his native state can become an economic powerhouse.

After a long and sparkling career in international finance, native Vermonter Bruce Lisman retired in 2009 as Chairman of the JP Morgan Chase Global Equity Division.

He has served as a Director on the boards of Vermont’s National Life Group, Merchant Bancshares, the Shelburne Museum, American Forests, CVPS, and Pace University. He is a graduate of the University of Vermont and has served as Chair of the University’s Board of Trustees.

“If there’s one Vermonter of distinction, ability and vision that Vermonters ought to listen to in these trying economic times, it should be Bruce Lisman,” said EAI VP John McClaughry. “Bruce understands economics and wealth creation. He urgently wants his native state to rise to the top of successful states, and has sound ideas for making that happen.”
